Being held on a special man-made 'chunk of Baja' course in and around the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the best of SCORE desert racing will be on display July 18-19 in the glowing spotlight of entertainment and special events capital of the world.
"The SCORE Las Vegas Cup is a tremendous way to showcase our sport and the world's best desert racers competing in a major market like Las Vegas," said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO/President. "Las Vegas Events is a dynamic, creative special events company and it is great to work with them on all three of our U.S. races. LVE continues to step up to the plate and present world class events in a world class city and SCORE is honored to be included on their roster of special events."
Pat Christenson, President of Las Vegas Events, has high praise for SCORE and the benefit SCORE events bring with them.
"We have worked with Sal Fish and SCORE for nearly 15 years and they produce the best desert races in the world,' Christenson said. 'SCORE desert races provide excellent entertainment and the SCORE Las Vegas Cup brings this great motorsport up close and personal for the fans. The economic impact for the SCORE races in Laughlin, Las Vegas and Primm are all very substantial and we are able to hold them on weekends that really help bolster the visitor volume in each of these areas."
The event will be held under the lights on a Friday and Saturday night at the world-class Dirt Track at LVMS. Racing will begin at 7 p.m. each night at LVMS. A very popular pre-race fan favorite is the meet the racers party down on the track where racers and their vehicles are available for an hour of photos and autographs.
As a prelude to the two days of racing, the SCORE Las Vegas Pit Stop at Fremont Street Experience will be held on Thursday, July 17. At the SCORE Pit Stop, starting at 6 p.m., there will be a vehicle display and the $5,000 SCORE Pit Crew Challenge for SCORE Trophy-Trucks along with
a meet the SCORE racers party for all competing SCORE racers under the canopy on Fremont Street. Admission is once again free to this event.
Also on Thursday, July 17, at 11 a.m., during media day festivities at the race site at LVMS, qualifying will be held for SCORE Trophy-Trucks. The fastest qualifier will receive the $1,000 SCORE Las Vegas Pole Award. Qualifying will be open to the public free of charge for grandstand seating.
Nearly 90-percent of the 1.5 mile course for the non-points special event will be viewable from the grandstands in the 8,026-seat facility. The event will showcase SCORE Trophy-Trucks, the marquee racing division for 800-horsepower, high-tech, unlimited production trucks as well as the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars. The other open-wheel desert classes scheduled to run are Class 1-2/1600, Class 10 and SCORE Lite. With no vehicle entry fee for competitors, the event will carry a guaranteed cash purse of $70,000, plus contingency postings.
Title sponsorship for SCORE Las Vegas Cup IV comes from Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Racing will be on a purpose-built race track with limited pavement and man-made dirt simulations of the rugged desert terrain these vehicles normally compete on.
The first three SCORE Trophy-Truck race winners in the SCORE Las Vegas Cup were Marty Coyne of El Centro, Calif., in 2005, NASCAR's Robby Gordon of Charlotte, N.C., in 2006 and Las Vegas' Rob MacCachren in 2007. Coyne and MacCachren drove Ford F-150 trucks while Gordon drove
