If there's a situation to plan for, then overlanding demands it. As the kings of preparation and self-sufficiency, overlanders rely on themselves and their vehicles to get there and back again. Here at Off Road Warehouse, we carry several products that equip enthusiasts for long adventures.
Some of the chief concerns for overlanders are fuel, shelter, and storage. For fuel, we carry a wide assortment of solutions, including RotoPax canisters. These handy containers come in a variety of sizes and mounting brackets to attach to the vehicle. What's more, versions exist to contain gasoline, diesel, and even water. Shelter, meanwhile, can be found in rooftop tents (RTTs). Overland Vehicle Solutions (OVS) is our premier partner for tents, with top-notch products like the Nomadic 3 and Bushveld available for several vehicles. Finally, storage takes priority to keep food, tools, and other essentials onboard. You'll find several storage racks from companies like Body Armor 4x4, Prinsu, All Pro Off Road, and others.
Towing presents a variety of challenges that can leave customers out of sorts. The first thing to assess is what you need to tow. For lighter fare like small trailers, receiver hitches will work just fine. These may either be installed at the factory or by the owner. However, the owner will need to determine if he has the proper equipment to support it, like brake light wiring for the trailer.
One way to support receiver hitching is with a Weighsafe trailer hitch. Weighsafe's unique hitches have a built-in scale that measures tongue weight. Tongue weight is the amount of weight applied to the hitch, which can have drastic effects on driving safety and performance. Too much weight can cause sagging, which may catch on bumps and affect the driver's forward visibility. Too little weight will raise the trailer, making it a danger of uncoupling, and lifting the tow vehicle's tires off of the ground. In either case, the trailer may become unwieldy and cause an accident on the road. As the saying goes, it's better to be safe than sorry!
Meanwhile, recovery is all about getting you out of a sticky situation. No matter where you go or what terrain you come across, having recovery gear will be your ticket to freedom if things go south.
Let's take a look at accessories that will aid recovery. Recovery boards like those made by Maxtrax are a great item to pack on any trip. Small, durable, and easy to deploy, Maxtrax recovery boards wedge between the tire and dodgy terrain, giving the tire a biting edge to grab onto and move from.
Another recovery aid is our own ORW Big Recovery Package, which comes packed with essentials. These include an air compressor, EZ air down kit, OVS tools (tire repair kit, folding shovel, and more), two Rugged Radio walkie-talkies, and a first aid kit.
The star of the recovery show is the winch, of course, and for good reason. Using an internal motor geared down for maximum torque, winches pull the vehicle free of an obstacle, whether it's a fallen log, jagged rock, or deep mud bog. We offer several brands to choose from, including Warn, Superwinch, and more.
The name of the game in off-roading is to make it there and back in one piece. Having the right towing and recovery gear makes that possible. So be sure to visit any of our locations, or give us a call, and we'll make sure your vehicle is prepped and ready for adventure!
