Body lifts work by separating the body from the frame and inserting blocks at key points before fastening the two back together. Lift block kits work similarly, albeit by installing onto the hardpoints of the shocks and struts. Although cost-effective and simple, these kinds of kits sacrifice ride quality and can negatively impact the driving experience.
A step up from these kinds of kits are the adjustable struts offered by companies like Bilstein and FOX . These kits raise the front end enough to clear larger tires and increase suspension travel, too. The crux of these designs is a clamping ring that fits into one of several grooves etched into the body of the strut, upon which rests the spring, which sets the overall ride height. This design typically offers up to 2.5 inches of lift.

These kits come with multiple components that dramatically alter the suspension setup-springs, spindles, trailing arms, control arms, drop-down brackets, and more. It’s common for bigger, longer shocks to be included in some of these kits.
