Product Reviews:

Wonderful product, better than stock ride quality with stock springs.

High quality manufacturing, and decades of teaching pedigree reflects in these shocks. I'm really happy with how they perform on my 2004 Tundra SR5 Quad Cab. Improved the ride by making the truck handle better in any condition. Rock crawling, desert running, trail driving, and general road use slow and high speed. I definitely recommend them, especially if you're looking to raise the front end without creating suspension geometry issues. Worth the money, certainly more so than leveling pucks and you get new really good struts.

Good Quality and Nice Ride

The shocks are working well after 30k miles of use under my 2003 Tundra that's used for daily driving and pulling my 19' fiberglass BBC powered jet boat. The shock valving is nice, not too soft like a GM car and not too harsh like Old Man Emu shocks on anything from Jeeps to Toyota's.

Thought they would fit a sequoia but they do not. Good thing my dad has a tundra which they did fit

The Bilstein 5100 shocks pair well with heavier E rated tires.

good quality product but there is no instruction at all on how the washers and bushing goes on the shock. I have to use my stock shock pattern.

Fit my 2001 4Runner perfectly, just don't forget to buy new lower bushings because the ones it comes with are not compatible with a 3rd gen. Allows for more flex and rides quite nice for the price

Struggles with installation, but overall satisfied

I couldn't believe how much more power my truck had when accelerating on the freeway, not to mention how smooth the ride is on the road and in town!.The only real complaint I have is how hard it was to tighten the top nut. The flattened bolt is not broad enough to get a good grip on it so that I could tighten the locking nut. After struggling with this for about one hour, I finally pulled the boot up, vise-gripped the piston bolt high and tightened the locking nut. Then I struggled for about 10 minutes to get the boot over the locking lip, but I nailed it.The first shock took me about 2.5 hours because of the points mentioned above. The second shock was installed in about 45 minutes considering the things mentioned above. These times would have been shorter if I could have removed the original nuts conventionally. I had to fire up my saws-all to remove the corroded rusted down nuts that were stripped from the original installation.

Came with a singular (1) shock, one. I'm not a math guy but I'm sure most cars today have at least 2

Decent shocks, but not the best

These shocks are fair at best. After 3 years one lost its seal. The ride is nice, but my springs really help. 3rd gen runner with a modified lift. The shocks are decent for the price but I would go Fox next time.

Bolts right up. All work was done via wheel wells and behind rear tire for driver's side, and in front of rear tire on passenger side. Approximately 1 hour job assuming you aren't dealing with a rusty mess.Tools needed:5mm Allen Wrench ( to hold shaft of new shock at top while tightening top nut.)14mm wratcheting wrench (for top nut, you'll thank me later)Vice Grips(to hold old shock by shaft while unbolting top nut)17mm socket for bottom nut/bolt. Retorqued new nut/bolt to 64 Ft./Lbs for my paricular model.(Bushing configuration, silver cup with smaller opening at bottom, then rubber, then silver cup with larger opening next. Place shock into place. From top of frame, rubber bushing first, then dull steel cup, then nut.)

Frustrating installation with Bilstein shocks

Giving it 4 stars overall for the improved ride quality. Probably a good quality shock, but I was unhappy that no diagram was included for installation. I checked Bilstein's website and no useful instructions, so they get 2 stars for installation. The shock comes with 3 convex washers (and two rubber pieces) and all 3 are totally different. We had to guess which order to put them on. On top of that, the old rear shocks (had to cut off with torch) are hard to get off, although that has nothing to do with the new Bilstein shocks, it just made for a frustrating installation with these two problems.
